St Joseph’s U12 Girls Team

The CDJL have this year decided to start a girls league following on from the formation of the girls academies.  This is very welcomed news by us at St Joseph’s. We as a club have always actively encouraged and promoted girls playing soccer. We have always had good numbers of girls who competed and played on a level playing field as the boys and as a result a number of those have gone on and competed at the very highest level with their country including Lauren Dwyer, pictured below. As they have progressed through the years and no longer able to play with the boys some of our Joeys players have  gone on and played with clubs like Wexford Youths,  Peamount United and Shelbourne Ladies. However  for different reasons this is not possible for every girl and leads to these girls giving up . A recent ERSI study showed that by the age of 20 66% of males still play sports compared with just 36% of females. Hopefully from this a successful girls league with emerge in Carlow and the girls will have the opportunity to continue playing for as long as they want.

We are putting a call out to all girls who are born in 2005/06 to come along and join our U12 team, no experience necessary ! For enquiries contact Brian 0872362175 after 8pm or email
