A good cup game played in great spirit, with both teams starting well. Hanover pounced on two defensive errors to go into the break two nil up. In the second half, St Joseph ‘s fought hard for every ball but Hanover added three more to their tally. Best for St Joseph’s were Jonah Webb, Alan Bohanna, Kate McDonald, Sarah Nolan and Conall McGuire. Jouzas Ciolidis was excellent before going off injured. Great all round team performance from Hanover Harps Green.
Well done to the whole Joey’s squad, they played some great football this year and improved game on game. Credit to Greg and John for all their hard work.
Joeys U16s played League winners New Oak this morning in the Cup. The 1st half was below par for this team where they allowed the home team dominate and the half ended 4-1 , with the only goal coming from Pavel Cahill heading the ball into the net from a great free kick by Jacob O’Brien. The 2nd half was more like the team we were used to all year, with the shackles off they started to enjoy the game and play football. A lovely ball through from David Quinn to Kostya Cahill, where Kostya used his pace to beat the defender and goalkeeper for Joey’s second. Kostya continued to cause problems for the New Oak defence and again he was through on goal but was taken down in the box. Kostya stepped up and slotted home the penalty. Joeys continued to press but unfortunately ran out of time to cause an upset, final score 5-3.
Goal scorers :The Cahill Brothers Pavel and Kostya (2).
