U14’s unlucky in Hacketstown

Joey’s U14’s travelled to Hacketstown for an early kick off and from the start created some great chances. Having taken control of the game for most of the first half it was the home team who broke to score the opener of the day, leaving it 1-0 at the break. The home team started the second half better than Joeys and went on to score 2 more goals. A determined Joeys side did not give up and went on the attack and quickly got 2 goals back, scored by Ciaran O’Hagan and Jacob O’Brien. Joeys fought hard for an equaliser but had several attempts denied. Despite having the most goal scoring chances on the day the games finished 3-2 to the home team. A great performance by the whole team including Rory Guerin, Daniel Nolan, Paddy Regan and Evan McGuire.

For the second week running this team were unlucky not to bag some points, but credit must go to all players for their spirit and determination.

U14s away to Pats

Joeys travelled to St Pats and the last time these two teams met, Joeys put in a fantastic performance to win. This was always going to be a tough match and our lads rose to the challenge. Both sides stayed strong each creating chances. It was Pats who opened the scoring and it finished up 1-0 to the home team at the break.  The second half was much the same and it wasn’t long before Joeys equalised with a great strike by Daniel Nolan to find the back of the net. 15 mins from the end Pats broke through to score a second. Joeys back line suffered a blow when Jack Murphy picked up an injury and had to come off. Pats capitalised on this and added a third before the final whistle. A great performance by the whole team was not reflected in the score line and perhaps a draw would have been a fairer result. A special mention to Joe Walton who put in a great display between the posts.

U11’s away to Vale

They say a soccer game is made up of 2 halves ,well how true it is . Joeys started at
a furious pace and did exactly what was asked of them by using the full width of the pitch and produced some lovely soccer .They completely dominated Vale and went in 3-0 up at half time .With goals from Jack Dunne, Conor Carew and Mathew Farrell .
In the second half things changed ,we scored one more from Jack Dunne but let in 4 for the second week in a row .
Was there mistakes made yes , will they learn from it yes and that’s the main thing.
But enough about the negatives . The positives by far outweigh the negatives 10  fold .The passing ,support play ,communications, chances created and overall possession just some of the positive to take from the game .
The game is behind us now ,next game V St Fiacs next Sat .

U13s home to Bagenalstown

St Joseph’s..2 Bagenalstown..5.

This was a tough game for a weakened home side who also lost
their goalkeeper in the warmup before the game,so it was no
surprised when a strong looking Bagenalstown took the lead after
10mins.St Joseph’s to their credit kept trying and were staying
in the game but 5 mins before half time the away side doubled
their lead but back came the home side who scored just on half
time when Arnas Karalius scored.H/T 1..2.The second half was
pretty much even until Bagenalstown scored again.St Joseph’s
tried hard to come back but were caught on the break when the
away side scored to make it 1..4, but again to their credit the
home side came back and scored again with Arnas Karalius getting
another goal, but Bagenalstown had the last say when they scored
right on full time to make the final score  2..5.

Goalscorer’s: Arnas Karalius (2).

Excellent Teamwork Pays Off for U9 Reds

St Joseph’s Red 3 – Slaney Rovers 0.

St Joseph’s Under 9 Red Team had their first win of the season against Slaney Rovers at home on Saturday morning. They played their best team performance of the year to date, showing great passing play & excellent team work.
The first goal was scored by Maeve O’Neill who had tested the Slaney Rovers defence many times and finally broke through to score a great goal. The second goal came from Conall McGuire who scored a rasper from the edge of the box that the opposition goalie didn’t get have a chance to stop. The final goal came from Robbie Fitzgerald who slotted home Joey’s third goal. Special mention must go to Bobby Doyle who covered all areas in the pitch and cleared a few dangerous balls that came near the Joey’s goal.

U11’s 8 Goal Thriller

First time for these two teams to play each other and what a game it was. Within 3 min Joeys were 2 nil down, with everyone still asleep ha . But they responded brilliantly and played some lovely soccer on the right wing for Conor Carew to cross onto the foot of Jack Dune to slot it home .4 mins played 2-1 down ,what a start. Joeys then started to play the best soccer they have played for a while and before long Mark Mullin scored a nice goal to make it 2-2 .
The second half was played with a frantic pace with both teams playing lovey soccer .Joeys took the lead with a lovely through ball from Alan Bohanna to Conor Carew to put it in the bottom left corner .3-2 .The match swayed back towards Slaney and they scored 2 goals to take the lead again .4-3
Joeys had it all to do again ,but in fairness to the team they kept it up and received their award when Jack Dune reacted quickest to a lose ball and slotted it home to finish the game 4-4 .
Credit to both teams for a good game in tough conditions .
