On a cold Sat Morning The U 9 St Josephs team unbeaten run comes to a end after a game they should have won. They dominaed possession, passing, chances and overall play but the one that counts they lost out on . Going down 3-2 .GRS took the lead mid way through the first half before a fine run by Conor Carew produced a goal to bring it to 1 all. Again GRS took a unexpected lead to go in at half time 2-1 up. The second half brought some good play by St Josephs and created a load of chances but no goals. Again GRS created one more chance and scored to bring it to 3-1.St Josephs dominated the remainder of the game with some lovely soccer been played and the hard work payed off with a fine goal from Alan Bohanna . GRS backs were to the wall for the rest of the game but held out to win 3-2. Overall a great team performance from all players and I,m sure will learn from this defeat and become a stronger team
Joeys U12’s were host to a strong Baltinglass team who had the better start to the game. They scored a quick goal in the first few minutes before Joeys could settle. Joeys got back into the game and failed to capitalise on a number of chances. The visitors scored another before half time. Joeys started strongly in the second half and their work soon paid off with a goal from Ross Manion. Joeys kept up the pressure and a great shot by Daniel Nolan found the back of the net to equalise. A great game of football by both sides. Great play by Brian McGrath, Daniel Giedriatis, Cormac O’Brien and Daniel Donegan.
This was a very entertaining game played between two evenly matched sides. This game could have gone either way . Both sides were very committed and fought hard throughout the game. St Josephs made the early running and went 1-0 up after a great ball from Harry Taylor to Maurice lawler who finished in style. Joe’s then spurned a few chances to go further ahead and just before half-time New Oak hit back to make it 1-1 at the break. After the break New Oak struck again to make it 2-1 but Joe’s heads never dropped and they got it back to 2-2 after a great corner from Owen Woods and finished off by big Jack Holmes. This was a great team preformance from Joe’s with Maurice Lawler , Harry Taylor , Padraic Murray, Sean Rourke and Jordan Agar-Fitzgerald showing their worth on the pitch.
10am and Bitterly cold with an easterly wind at McCardles Cross had the U15s out against the League Leaders St Pats this morning.
Josephs had hardly settled into to the game and with less than a minute gone the unfortunate Mark Hickey deflected a shot into the Joeys Net .2 minutes later and it was 2 -0 to the visitors when a fine strike by Brian Malone found the roof of the net. Joeys were stunned and only for saves in the 10th , 15th , and 20th minutes Pats would of been out of site. There pressure told however and Joesephs defence conceeded 2 in quick succession in the 28th & 29th minute by Brian Malone & Luke Murphy. Half time 0-4
Second half was a different game with Padraig McNally introducing Jack McNally , Killian Browne & Oldhan Duff. Joeys defence stood strong and took the game to St Pats. Kelan Gaffney in goal made some excellent saves and inspired the rest of the team to keep going .Their hard work paid off in the 55 minute when a long clearance from Gaffney in goal put Jack McNally through to finish calmly past Harry Hynes in the Pats Goal. Pats never settled after this and some tough tackling by Eamon Murphy knocked them out of their stride .Game finished with Joeys on the up and Pats happy to head away with the points.
Players who played well on the day were Fergal Kelly , Lee Kane , Rory Doyle , Padraig Webb while for Pats Kelvin Corcoran , Conor Hogan & Josh Moore played well.
