Thanks to Padraig McNally, Sean O’Gorman and all the over 35’s squad for doing a great job in preparing the pitches for the upcoming season. A great job and we as a Club appreciate the effort.

FC Hengenveld visit to St Joseph’s

Its been five weeks now since FC Hengenveld came to visit but it still only feels like yesterday that the left. The  friendships that were forged on that June weekend will hopefully last a long time. The Dutch lads arrived on friday 29 June and booked into the talbot hotel where they were made feel very welcome and were given full use of the hotel’s leisure facalities. In the afternoon they were taken to the Ivy Rooms to play pool and afterwards to the Dome for a Bowling match. The real treat on friday was the welcome dinner , hosted by Mario and the staff of Pompei restaurant. If first impressions count then Mario blew their minds with the spread he laid on. No words could ever thank him for what he did, we are so lucky to have him and his family as part of our club at St Joseph’s. Saturday was down to buisness and some football had to be played.  Hengenveld fielded their full strength youth winning team against Jodys Boys and what a game they served up. The Dutch boys passed and moved the ball with great ease but to the suprise of many so did the Joeys boys. The game ended with a 3 – 2 win for St Joseph’s but friendship was the real winner. On Saturday night Tinryland GAA club was the venue for a BBQ for both teams and music was provided by Eddy Townsend and friends. The highlight of the night was when Eddy led the Dutch lads with their version of the fields of Athenry. It was recordrd and has become a big hit in Holland. Sunday saw the lads have a relaxing day around Carlow town and time for some shopping. On Sunday evening we took them to see Tinryland play the league semi final and afterwards went out to the Mall pub to watch the European Cup final. After the match we said our goodbyes as the lads had an early flight on Monday morning. To Jody and Pascal and all who made it such a great weekend many thanks and to my friend Raymond who made it possible on the Dutch side a huge thank you and may our two clubs grow even closer in friendship.  Attached is a picture of Mario receiving a signed FC Twente shirt from the Dutch lads.

Help needed for Tesco bag packing

Please support our fund raising activity this Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Tesco. This is a great opportunity to raise money which will go towards the running of our Club for the 2012 – 2013 season. We really appreciate your continued support.
